SCIENTIFIC REPORT 2012
Research and Innovation
Research and innovation at the CSPT is divided into six major areas that
they cover their entire scope. The small number of Areas allows a better one
understanding and facilitates the organization within each area and between one and the other.
The areas are as follows:
Cancer: This area comprises all the research and innovation that is done
in the area of this disease. It doesn’t just include research groups
of the oncology service but all other groups of other services that
do basic research, clinical or innovation related to the disease,
the biological and genetic mechanisms of proliferative deregulation
of neoplastic cells, expression patterns of MicroRNAs
related, genetic studies of oncogenesis, sentinel genes and the
different aspects of treatments, both antiproliferative and
of antiangiogens.
Infections, AIDS and Sepsis: Includes all groups investigating
aspects related to infectious diseases. Both in his
basic appearance (mechanisms of pathogenicity, study of mutants
resistant, gene variants, gene integration mechanisms, etc.),
as in its clinical aspect (studies with new antibiotics,
epidemiology, antiretroviral drugs, etc.).
Neuroscience and Mental Health: Includes all groups working in
mental health, behavioral disorders, as well as more aspects
biological neurology, etc.
Inflammation, Immunology and Metabolism: This area integrates a
researchers who generate scientific knowledge in problems of
health with pathophysiology involving mechanisms closely
related, such as immunological processes,
inflammatory, metabolic or hormonal regulation. These
processes manifest as cardiovascular disease,
