Lluís Blanch Torra

Scientific Director of the Parc Taulí Research and Innovation Institute (I3PT)

I could not be more proud to present to you the results of the research, innovation and teaching activities of the professionals of Parc Taulí in 2022, to whom I am extremely grateful for their dedication, many times above the call of duty. I extend my gratitude to the I3PT staff who have supported and managed to organize and manage research and innovation at Parc Taulí with excellence, as well as to the directors of the Corporation with its general management at the helm, for their commitment and their support for research.

This year has been particularly momentous. We have worked hard to achieve one of the milestones we had set for ourselves: After the I2021PT was recognized as a CERCA center by the Generalitat de Catalunya in 3, in 2022 we underwent a audit to be accredited as a Health Research Institute of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III of the Ministry of Science and Innovation.

We close the year confident that the resolution will be favorable for our institution, after having received a first report from the auditors in which some suggestions for improvement have been made, and the Institute has also been congratulated in many respects relevant to our activity and our management system.

Obtaining this accreditation will mean recognition as a center for the generation and transfer of knowledge that promotes innovation in response to health priorities at state and European level; and will place us among the elite of the Spanish scientific landscape, and provide us with better access to resources to advance scientific results for the benefit of people's health.

2022 has also been the year in which theI3PT has opened the new facilities located next to the Water Tower, allowing a greater concentration of human resources and transversal support services dedicated to scientific research and innovation. It is the first step towards a much more ambitious near future in which, extended to the annex building, we will be able to enjoy much more space that will allow a better organization and synergy between the different research activities.

As for the scientific results in this exercise, they have been exceeded again 500 scientific publications and the impact factor has been placed at 4.081 points. In addition, we have 212 articles located in Q1, the 83 in D1. An excellent figure that shows the growth and qualitative improvement of our research activity. Indicators also reflect positive data regarding competitive projects granted, upon reaching the figure of 24; as well as the 48 new ideas captured for future innovation projects, and the 95 which we already have in innovation portfolio.

I also want to highlight that this year we have organized the second edition of the Node Taulí Incubation Program, – which has been a success and has boosted the organization of new editions for 2023–; as well as the continuity in the coordination of the ITEMAS platform, which continues to position us as a reference agent that contributes to the growth and dynamism of the industrial sector in the field of health in Spain. Equally relevant is the organization of the I Innovation Financing Forum of the biomedical sector in Spain by a public hospital, an opportunity to delve deeper into financing models for startups and present the spin-offs of Parc Taulí to future investors.

These results, together with the dedication and talent of the Institute's staff, drive us to face all the challenges and take advantage of all the opportunities that will present themselves in 2023.

My most sincere thanks to all the professionals who have contributed to the success of the Institute, for your dedication and talent, and to the team of people you make up, for your humanity, generosity and commitment unconditional
