Scientific-technical unit

La Scientific and Technical Unit (UCT) centralizes laboratories, technologies and equipment and encourages research teams to have access to them.

It offers research support as well as genetic analysis and immunoassay biomarker analysis services. It also manages access to the research laboratories, the research operating theater and the small animal stable.

Biobank

El Biobank of the I3PT was authorized on December 12, 2020. Since then, work has been underway to integrate the previously existing collections at the institution and create new ones.

It offers its collections of biological samples and associated data to research staff, both internal and external, who request them to carry out their research. It also offers biological sample processing and storage services.

The following table details the collections included in the Biobank as of December 31, 2022.

Collection

Purpose

Tissue Bank (TXT) Surplus diagnostics for research in different pathologies
Rheumatological Diseases (REU) Research in rheumatological and autoimmune diseases
Oncological Diseases (ONC) Cancer research
Endocrine Diseases (END) Research in pathologies of the endocrine system
Kidney Disease (NEF) Research in renal pathologies
Digestive and Liver Diseases (MDH) Research in digestive and liver pathologies
Infectious Diseases (INF) Research in infectious diseases
Mental Health (EMS) Research in Mental Health

Integration of samples in the Biobank

During 2022, the Biobank has consolidated its activity at the Parc Taulí Health Corporation.

Donation inclusion activity is down, as expected, given that all pre-existing collections were included last year.

The following table details the samples included in each collection during 2022.

* Samples from the TXT collection are included from the tissue care archive of the Parc Taulí Hospital and are only registered in the Biobank once a researcher requests them. At that time it is checked that said samples have CI and comply with the legal and ethical requirements and are included in the Biobank database.

Clinical Trials Support Unit

La Clinical Trials Support Unit (USAC) is created with the purpose of promoting and facilitating clinical research in the institution.

To be able to carry out this objective, the USAC is formed by a team of professionals in charge of the execution of clinical trials who coordinate to offer the necessary services to carry out all the activities from the moment of feasibility analysis of the study until its closure.

The purpose of the support offered by the USAC is to launch the study as soon as possible, guaranteeing the quality and reliability of the data obtained in the study and complying with the agreements with the promoters.

Laboratory of biomedical signals

El Signal Laboratory has an interoperability platform with the capacity to manage raw data, as acquired in the healthcare process, to subsequently purify and transform them, with the aim of turning them into valuable information for research.

In order to obtain this data, the signal laboratory uses different medical devices, and innovative solutions developed in-house, which allow the research staff to have a large amount of demographic, clinical and physiological data, with the necessary quality for the development of research projects.
