On this day, health professionals, community services, people with their own experience and families want to emphasize that mental health is a fundamental right in which we must invest so that there are no exclusions in basic rights.
“Caring for mental health and investing in social rights” invites us to focus beyond healthcare and understand mental health as a collective responsibility, rooted in rights, dignity and social inclusion.
Scientific evidence shows us how the impact of social stress and trauma, unwanted loneliness or the misuse of technology are important in the emergence of mental illnesses such as Major Depression and how we can prevent this and other mental disorders by integrating social and health interventions.
The best way out is a strong, inclusive and committed community network, where all voices count. Mental health is promoted by adapting health consultations for the care of people with complex chronic disorders and mental disorders, but also considering social fragility and sociocultural aspects that affect their prognosis.
PROMOTING MENTAL HEALTH also implies claiming the right to housing, leisure and access to work with the necessary support to build a more just and inclusive society.
