- This event has already happened.
The General Assembly of the United Nations, in Resolution 45/106, of December 14, 1990, proclaimed October 1 International Day of the Elderly.
From the Intermediate Care area of the Consorci Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí, we want to take advantage of the International Day of the Elderly to get closer to the population with a day open to citizens and professionals.
The number of people aged sixty-five and older is expected to increase to one thousand six hundred million by the year 2050. This increasing aging population is a persistent change and a reality of our present. Countries work to achieve a dignified and safe old age. The promotion of the benefits of leading an active life and following healthy habits to arrive in good condition at an advanced age is a constant in the health recommendations. It also reflects on the challenges posed by the increase in dependency due to the aging of the population, but very little is said about other aspects surrounding the daily life of the elderly. Subjects about which we know almost nothing, and for this reason we come up with wrong ideas.
The celebration of this first day aims to start an opportunity to open up to the population, getting closer to the reality of the elderly by talking and combating stereotypes or false beliefs that we have about this life cycle. We would like to awaken curiosity and a true interest in getting to know this stage of life better from a positive perspective.
