A project of the Observatory of Mental Health of Catalonia (OSAMCAT), managed by the Fundació Parc Taulí, has been selected in the call “Fight against poverty and social exclusion 2014” of the Program of Grants for Project Initiatives Social benefits of “la Caixa” Welfare Projects, endowed with 23.770 euros.

The "Project for the fight against poverty and the prevention of social exclusion and its implications in the field of mental health" also has the participation of the Baix Llobregat County Council and the CIPAIS clinical team (psychologists and doctors specializing in psychoanalysis, psychotherapy and psychiatry in the Eixample of Barcelona)

The purpose of the call is the social inclusion of people in a situation of vulnerability, through projects that aim to facilitate their integral development, that enhance their capacities and that promote equal opportunities.

The selected OSAMCAT project aims to continue the Social Revitalization Program with people in poverty and / or at risk of social exclusion, initiated as a result of the conclusions of the study “Impact of the economic crisis in the mental health of the population ”, prepared by OSAMCAT. This study highlighted the need to enhance the empowerment of people in poverty, risk and / or exclusion and the professionals who care for them, both in the field of mental health and basic social services. . He also showed how the situation of long-term unemployment and the loss of housing means that a large group of people affected are pushed into social marginalization due, among other factors, to the loss. of the social bonds that shaped its daily existence before the crisis.

The project will be developed in three phases, in the municipalities of Sabadell (Vallès Occidental), El Prat de Llobregat, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Martorell (Baix Llobregat) and the Esquerra de l'Eixample of Barcelona, ​​which are the same ones who participated in the aforementioned study.

A social network will be created to help them reconfigure their interrelational spaces and encourage economic and social initiatives.

The digital platform will be developed with the support of the Department of Applied Mathematics of the University of Barcelona (UB)
 

The phases are as follows:

1. Work with basic social services professionals. What they detect in their daily activity will be widely collected and they will be provided with the appropriate tools to be able to carry out the program with users in situations of poverty, risk and / or social exclusion.

2. Work with users of basic social services. It will intervene directly on people who meet the criteria of poverty and social exclusion, with the creation of social revitalization groups. This will improve their empowerment capabilities and, at the same time, enhance the creation and recovery of social bonds.

3. Development of a digital platform, which will be used by people who have participated in the program with the aim of creating a social network to help them reconfigure their interrelational spaces and promote economic and social initiatives (organize meetings, exchange information on job offers, share information on training courses, organize mutual aid groups…
