Outbreak of legionellosis in Sabadell

28 cases have been reported: 20 admitted to the plant, 4 discharges and 4 deaths
The Public Health Agency of Catalonia continues the investigation of patients diagnosed with legionellosis declared during this week in Sabadell

The Catalan Public Health Agency (ASPCAT) together with Sabadell City Council are continuing the investigation into the outbreak of legionellosis that has occurred in recent days in the municipality of Sabadell. In relation to the information provided yesterday, 5 more patients and 2 deaths have been reported, bringing the total number of people affected so far to 28. As already reported, it cannot be ruled out that they may appear more affected over the next few days as the incubation period of the disease is a maximum of 10 days.

During this morning there was the death of two patients aged 84 and 86 years respectively with very serious underlying pathology. There has been another discharge, so the total number of discharges is 4 and the rest of the patients, 20 in total, remain hospitalized (14 in Parc Taulí, 4 in the General Hospital of Catalonia and 2 in the Holiday cottages Clinic near Vallès). The last reported cases began to show symptoms between 12 and 16 September. They are 5 men aged between 48 and 86 years and are patients with predisposing risk factors or severe or very severe previous underlying pathology.

The Public Health Agency of Catalonia is continuing its investigation into the outbreak and both epidemiological surveillance and environmental research activities have been strengthened, while waiting for the results of the analyzes carried out at the facilities. With possible involvement.

  • Legionellosis is transmitted by inhalation of water spray or aerosols.
  • Legionellosis is not transmitted from person to person.
  • Public water can be drunk without any danger, both from private homes and from public sources.
