The Program for the Early Detection of Colon Cancer is being rolled out in Sabadell 150 150 Parc Taulí current affairs

From this November, the residents of Sabadell will be able to benefit from the Program for the early detection of colon and rectal cancer. The deployment in the city of Sabadell begins in the neighborhoods of Can Rull and La Concòrdia, and will be extended to the rest of the city according to schedule.

  • The program is aimed at all men and women aged 50 to 69 and offers the possibility of performing, every two years and free of charge, a very simple test to detect cancer or precancerous lesion.
     
  • The program is done in collaboration with pharmacies, hospitals and primary care teams in the area.
     
  • Colon and rectal cancer is a common disease from the age of 50. It is the second most common cancer among women and the third most common among men, and an estimated 5.000 new cases are diagnosed in Catalonia each year.

Colorectal cancer can develop for months without causing discomfort and often, when these appear, the disease is already quite advanced. Early detection programs make it possible to detect the disease in its early stages, which makes it easier to treat and increases its chances of cure.

 

The program in Sabadell
 

The Program for the early detection of colon and rectal cancer was launched in 2000 in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and is being extended to the rest of Catalonia.
It is aimed at men and women aged 50 to 69, the highest risk age period and in which early detection has been shown to be beneficial. In the case of Sabadell, the target population, ie men and women aged 50 to 69, is 48.868 people. In the coming days, people in this age group will receive a letter explaining how the test works.

The first municipality in the reference area of ​​Parc Taulí when the program arrived was Castellar del Vallès and, from there, it continues to be extended to the other municipalities according to the planned calendar and in this order: Sant Llorenç Savall, Sabadell, Polinyà, Sentmenat, Barberà del Vallès, Badia del Vallès, Cerdanyola del Vallès and Ripollet.
