Improvements in the energy efficiency of the buildings in Parc Taulí thanks to the European project RESSEEPE 150 150 Parc Taulí current affairs

The RESSEEPE initiative arises to respond to the European demand to reduce carbon emissions, in compliance with climate and energy security objectives. The project has been funded by the 7th Framework Program and has 25 partners from all over Europe including companies, technology centers and public institutions (schools, universities and hospitals, including Parc Taulí).

The RESSEEPE (Rehabilitation Services and Solutions for Improving Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings) will bring together design and decision-making tools, innovative fabric manufacturers for construction and a strong program to demonstrate improvements in the energy efficiency of buildings. The main idea of the project is to reduce energy consumption and improve the insulation of buildings, as well as cleaner and more competitive energy generation using renewable energy sources, which seeks a reduction of around 50% in the energy consumption and a 50% reduction in greenhouse gases, as well as a return on investment in 10 years in rehabilitated buildings. The project has a total financial endowment of € 8.800.000, of which € 459.434 is managed by Parc Taulí.

In Spain, the two pilot buildings correspond to two Catalan health centers: the Hospital de Sabadell, of the Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí, and the Hospital de Terrassa, of the Consorci Sanitari de Terrassa. In November 2015, the first action began in Parc Taulí, related to LED technologies. Specifically, the lighting system on the 9th floor of the Sabadell Hospital building is being replaced and LED panels will be placed in its place, including corridors and rooms.

Recent studies show that light can have positive effects on care processes because they improve the atmosphere in the rooms, as well as the mood and well-being of patients. In addition, with the new LED lighting, 30.000 kWh will be saved annually and CO2 emissions will be reduced by 5.500 kg.

Later, actions will be carried out such as the re-equipment of the 9th floor Taulí building (change of current windows to high-efficiency windows, insulation panels at the top and bottom of the windows), the change of the il exterior lighting of the parking area for LED lighting, and the installation of thermal panels and UPC prototypes for the domestic hot water of the Albada and VII Centenary buildings.
