The Catalan Health Service has notified a few days ago in Parc Taulí, and in five other Catalan centers, its designation as units of clinical expertise (UEC) in minority neuromuscular diseases in the area of Catalonia. Specifically, these are the following centers: Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, Santa Creu and Sant Pau Hospital, Bellvitge University Hospital, Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital with Institut Guttmann and Parc Taulí Hospital in Sabadell.
Within this framework, these centers will be units of expertise for the areas of muscle diseases, peripheral nerve diseases, neuromuscular junction defects, motor neuron diseases, and other neuromuscular diseases.
The designation of the Clinical Expertise Units is based, among others, on the evaluation of the knowledge and experience of the centers (by volume of healthcare activity, scientific publications, expert professionals, training activities…) and by the existence of a multidisciplinary team to address the clinical, diagnostic, therapeutic, rehabilitation and / or palliative needs of people affected by a minority disease.
In 2017, Parc Taulí was also designated as one of the three units of clinical expertise that make up what was the first care network for minority diseases in Catalonia, dedicated to the care of genetic-based cognitive-behavioral diseases in pediatric age, together with the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona and the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital.
