This donation will allow the purchase of two equipment that facilitate the intubation of patients and, at the same time, reduce the risks for professionals who do not have to have direct contact with the patient to perform the technique.
La Barnola-Vallribera Private Charitable Foundation, Sant Josep, dedicated to providing aid and protection to children, youth and the elderly, has made an extraordinary donation of € 20.000 to Parc Taulí so that they have more resources for the safety of the centre's healthcare staff. Parc Taulí has decided to use this contribution in the purchase of material to ensure the safety of professionals who must perform the technique of intubation of patients.
Specifically, two devices will be purchased GlideScopes, equipment that facilitates the intubation of patients suffering from severe respiratory failure. The technology of these devices reduces the risk for professionals in the practice of the technique as it avoids direct contact with the patient. The cost of this equipment is approximately € 17.000 each.
The intubation technique involves placing a flexible plastic tube in the trachea in order to keep the airways open or to serve as a conduit for the administration of certain medications. It is often performed in critically injured, sick, or anesthetized patients to facilitate ventilation of the lungs, including mechanical ventilation, and to avoid the possibility of airway obstruction or suffocation.
The Fundació Privada Benèfica Barnola-Vallribera, Sant Josep de Sabadell wants to use this action to call on other foundations linked to the city, to join the collaboration between entities in Sabadell to to face the difficult situation we have to live.
From Parc Taulí we are very grateful to the Fundació Privada Benèfica Barnola-Vallribera, Sant Josep de Sabadell for this gesture of solidarity and humanitarian work with our patients and professionals, at a time when all resources are welcome in the fight against COVID- 19.
