A care team made up of ten paediatricians and six nurses from Parc Taulí has been part, for the past few months, of the medical team of the SEM medical neonatology-pediatric helicopter, which from its beginnings until now was only professionals from the Hospital de Sant Pau. The duplication of the care team has made it possible to double the service hours of this device, which is currently operational from 7 am to 11 pm, 365 days a year, to attend to neonatological emergencies. -pediatrics throughout Catalonia.
The fact that the SEM Base in the province of Barcelona is located in Parc Taulí, and the existence of a highly specialized pediatric team in this same hospital, have been key to the expansion of this service for the benefit of of newborn-pediatric patients who may need it. Thus, although the base of the helicopter is always the same, since this June the teams of Sant Pau and Parc Taulí alternate every 15 days to cover the service.
This service allows newborn-pediatric patients to be assisted in distant territories of Barcelona and transferred to the nearest hospitals in a quarter of what it would cost to do so in a ground ambulance. However, the SEM also has two other collaborating terrestrial pediatric bases, in this case depending on the care teams of the Vall d'Hebron and Sant Joan de Déu hospitals in Barcelona.
