Parc Taulí launches the second team of the DaVinci surgical system and has already added 300 interventions since the arrival of the first robot

Surgeons from the Parc Taulí Urology Service have this week unveiled the second team of the Da Vinci surgical system, which joins the surgical block in order to increase the robotic surgery activity that began at this hospital in October. of 2020.

In these 17 months of activity, the professionals of the General and Digestive Surgery Services (teams of Coloproctology and Gastroesophageal Surgery), Urology and Gynecology, have already performed a total of 300 highly complex interventions of different procedures, mostly oncological. In recent weeks, teams of specialists from the Otorhinolaryngology and Thoracic Surgery Services have joined in, and the Hepatobiliopancreatic Surgery team will also be joining very soon.

The Da Vinci robot is a sophisticated surgical instrument that enhances the surgeon's skills because it offers greater vision, precision of movements and control of the intervention in relation to the laparoscopic technique. The device is controlled by a surgeon who operates sitting from a console, from where he has a three-dimensional view of the surgical field and better accessibility to hard-to-reach anatomical areas.

The practice of the Da Vinc surgical system is bringing a significant qualitative improvement to high-complexity surgeries, especially to different types of cancer in the respective specialties that are addressed with procedures such as hemicolectomies (removal of part of the colon). , radical cystectomies (bladder removal) with urinary diversion, esophageal or endometrial oncological surgery, among others.

Recently, robotic surgery has also been incorporated to address obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), and the first robotic surgery in thoracic surgery in the Vallès has been performed to resect a thymoma.
