In August 2021 the BOE published the approval of the new specialty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and in 2023 the first residents begin their training. In this first phase there will be 20 places throughout Spain, three in Catalonia, one of them awarded to Parc Taulí.

The head of Child and Youth Mental Health, Dra. Montse Pàmias highlights the value of the new specialty in child psychiatry as a body of differential knowledge and the fact of obtaining one of the first three training places awarded in Catalonia: "This is great news both for the health area mental health as well as for the maternal-child area, since we will have a resident for mental health who will also be trained in paediatrics". Pàmias points out that the team of professionals in his field has worked to fulfill the criteria necessary to obtain the training place in the new specialty.

The child and youth mental health team is made up of 16 child psychiatrists (one of them in the Pediatric Service), 15 clinical psychologists, four social workers, two social educators and the nursing staff from the different fields who work in the different spaces care: the hospital plant that offers care to all of Vallès Occidental, which will soon open a new location on the third floor of the hospital; the general day hospital and, in October, we will have the day hospital for eating disorders; community programs (Guide program, Care for crises, Care for schools); the Child and Youth Mental Health Center of Sabadell (CSMIJ) and the Ripollet CSMIJ that support 16 Basic Health Areas.

Apart from the usual teaching activity carried out by the professionals, from the 2023-2024 academic year, an optional subject of child psychiatry will be offered at the UAB.

In the field of research activity, Child and Adolescent Mental Health participates in different competitive studies within the framework of CIBERSAM and collaborates in different pharmacological clinical trials, among other scientific activities.

Dr. Pàmias points out that "both the work of the professionals as well as the infrastructure and the research activity justify the criteria required to obtain the training place at Parc Taulí for the new specialty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry".
