The Parc Taulí Neurosurgery Service began to function as its own service on June 1, 2021, once the neurosurgical assistance that was carried out in coordination with Mútua Terrassa was completed. Recently, three professionals have joined to complete a team of seven neurosurgeons, consolidating and expanding the care activity of the service.
The main pathologies that are addressed in neurosurgery include tumoral pathology (cranial and spinal), polytraumatic cases, degenerative spine pathology, hydrocephalus, cerebrospinal fluid circulation pathology, pediatric neurosurgery and vascular neurosurgery.
With the new additions of professionals, the portfolio of services is expanded by offering skull base endonasal surgery and minimally invasive spinal techniques for the treatment of pain. Likewise, the functional examinations of cerebrospinal fluid circulation also increase. With these procedures, a more agile response is given to the population's demand and will allow the waiting lists to be reduced.
The Neurosurgery Service works in close collaboration with other hospital services, such as maxillofacial surgery, for cases of severe craniofacial malformations (complex craniosynostosis), the interventional neuroradiology service, for vascular neurosurgery cases, or the spine pathology unit, among others. Also of note is the collaboration with the 3D Laboratory for surgical planning, from where they have already made three custom-made cranial prostheses.
