El Dr. Àlex Ferrer, psychiatrist and researcher of the Psychoneuroendocrinology and Stress in Psychosis research group (PSICPNEC) of the Parc Taulí Research and Innovation Institute (I3PT), received the diploma and recognition for the best doctoral thesis at state level of the former president of the SEPSM, Víctor Pérez, in the framework of the institutional act of the XXV National Congress of Psychiatry held from November 17 to 19 in Santiago de Compostela. Ferrer received the prize for the thesis "Association of genetic and epigenetic factors with intermediate transdiagnostic phenotypes in mental disorderss ".
The thesis study, which Dr. Ferrer defended in December 2021 with a qualification of excellent cum laude, reinforces the hypothesis of the existence of a relationship between genetic factors and biological factors that can be measured and observed in a transdiagnostic way, that is, independently of the psychiatric diagnoses that are used in routine clinical practice. According to Dr. Ferrer "knowing this relationship in more detail will allow us in the future to develop more precise classification systems and detect populations with a greater risk of suffering from a mental pathology".
Congratulations on this recognition!
