Parc Taulí joined World Asthma Day today by carrying out asthma control tests and spirometry in the hospital lobby to raise awareness among the population about this respiratory disease that affects a total of 5.5% of the population of the Spanish state, children being the most vulnerable population.
Asthma is a pathology of the respiratory tract that causes the lungs not to function correctly. Asthmatic people are more vulnerable to external factors such as weather, dust, smoke and chemicals.
Spirometry is a test that assesses the functioning of the lungs by measuring the speed of inhalation and exhalation of air, as well as the capacity of air that the lungs can hold.
A correct diagnosis and treatment are very important to improve the evolution of this respiratory disease. For this reason, this year's motto is 'Asthma care for all'.
Parc Taulí is a benchmark in the care and treatment of this chronic disease, as the asthma unit is more than 30 years old and treats an average of 2.300 patients annually.
