This August, the Parc Taulí International Health and Traveler Advice Unit celebrates its 20th anniversary. In August 2003 Dr. Bernat Font created this unit, the first in Vallès Occidental, after observing a change in the population's tendency to travel and the need for a specific service on tropical medicine.
Dr. Ma Luisa Machado, coordinator of the Unit, emphasized that "the Dr. Font was a pioneer. He saw the need to create this unit and the data proved him right. In 2007, in four years we served more than 2.000 travelers". Data that was maintained until 2019 that international health professionals treated almost 3.000 people.
"With the pandemic, there was a drop in visits, but last year the demand for information recovered, around 2.000 travelers passed through the unit. And this year, we can confirm that normalcy has returned", assures Dra. axed
This Unit has also evolved over the years. Its coordinator explained that "we are more connected with the traveler for better tracking. We don't just focus on the pre-trip visit; but also, afterwards, to find out if there was any health problem during the trip".
The International Health and Traveler Advice Unit at Parc Taulí offers its services as an international vaccination center and health care advisor to travelers. The unit is part of the Infectious Disease Population Program of the Parc Taulí.
