The Parc Taulí and the Sabadell Swimming Club have signed a collaboration agreement so that both the patients of the Early Care Service and those cared for in the Pediatric Complex and Palliative Chronic Patient Unit can access aquatic activities at their facilities locations This collaboration between the two institutions already started during 2019 and 2020, with children from Early Care, which unfortunately stopped the pandemic.
Children cared for in the Early Care Service often have difficulties in their motor development, while children cared for in the pediatric complex and palliative chronic patient unit have severe motor impairment, with significant orthopedic alterations.
This means that access to leisure and leisure activities with other children or their relatives is often limited. In this sense, it has been shown that water is an environment that facilitates movement and an experience that children enjoy a lot.
Through this agreement, Club Natació Sabadell gives free of charge the space in the Gran Via Centre's baby pool, one morning a week for a physiotherapist from the Early Care service to lead an activity with children and their carers.
At the same time, on another day, he gives up part of the AquaJocs space in the Can Llong facilities so that a physiotherapist from the chronic complex and palliative patient unit, together with the carers, can carry out water activities
The duration of the activity is one hour, divided into two sessions of 30 minutes, and about 3-4 children per session at the same time.
The director of the Pediatric Service, Luís Renter, explains that "these activities are very beneficial for the children's physical well-being because they are in an environment where they can stimulate active mobility". But also emotionally, because "they enjoy a leisure activity with their relatives or carers and with other children".
These sessions also empower family members and caregivers because “they learn resources and techniques to take advantage of the advantages of the aquatic environment with their sons and daughters”, says Fabio Chiner, pediatric physiotherapist.
It is also important to be able to continue an activity that was very well valued, since "families really appreciate the different approach that water offers us with children", adds physiotherapist Carmela Alonso, pediatric physiotherapist.
On behalf of Club Natació Sabadell, "we value these actions very positively. As a reference entity in the city, it is important that we also contribute our collaboration to facilitate access to sport and physical activity for special groups, thus contributing to health and better well-being these children”, says Claudi Martí, president of CN Sabadell.
The pediatric complex and palliative chronic patient unit at Parc Taulí cares for around 75 patients between 0 and 18 years of age. During 2019 and 2022, around 13 children from the Early Care service benefited from the activity.
