Parc Taulí has launched a pioneering reception project for first-year residents (R1). During the first weeks of incorporation, a group of randomly chosen R1s participated in the Taulímpics program.
This initiative is a commitment by the Department of Teaching and the Department of People at Parc Taulí to create an accompaniment program during the first-year resident's adaptation path in the new professional and personal environment, as well as a tool to promote healthy habits and behaviors in times of change.
During the institutional welcome ceremony for the new residents at Parc Taulí, 20 residents were selected and then divided into four groups to participate in these activities.
The activities took place over five days, from May 29 to June 7. The four groups have participated in different experiential training actions with challenges related to health promotion such as: healthy eating; physical activity; self-awareness and emotional management. As well as the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders of occupational origin (TMD) and the improvement of well-being, with rest induction techniques. The last activity was group and the winning team of the Taulímpics was announced, which was presented with the Escape Food 2050, a futuristic escape room related to food sustainability.
The Director of Teaching, Dra. Pepi Rivera, assures that "the first year of residence is very hard. They must adapt to the operation of a hospital, be part of its gear. And, for many, there is also a change in the personal sphere, because they have to leave their homes. And, let's remember, they have just spent a year locked up as students and with high levels of stress in order to pass the MIR with a specific grade to choose the specialty they want". For that, "we considered it essential to make a project that would help them make these changes in a balanced way. The main goal of the Taulímpics is to generate community among them and work on their emotional well-being".
This program will have a follow-up throughout your first year of residence to monitor your progress. "We plan to do a check-up after six months, after the Olympic Games, to find out how they are doing. We want to know if this community they have created after the program continues. And if this network, on a personal level, is strong enough to ensure that they are well during their residency and for years after”, explains Ester Bonet, Welfare representative of the People department.
After verifying the success and satisfaction of the Taulímpics participants, the Parc Taulí is considering introducing this project into its resident welcome program in the coming years. "We want to ensure the well-being of our residents. They are our future. If we want them to take care of us, we have to take care of them first", insists Dra. rivera
The Taulímpics are part of the different actions and activities that the Parc Taulí, and the residents themselves, do during the years of specialization such as occupational health monitoring, self-care training pills, personal or professional skills, simulation activities, escape rooms in services, meeting activities between residents or training activities with residents of other centres, etc...
The Taulímpics also have a solidarity side, shared with the social and corporate responsibility of the institution, and the food that was acquired during the activity dedicated to healthy eating was donated to the food bank of the NGO JESED of Sabadell
This program has been organized together with the company Nutrim who work on the prevention and promotion of habits through innovative learning strategies.
