This morning the children who arrived in Sabadell from the Western Sahara visited Parc Taulí for a medical check-up. This medical visit is mandatory within the project organized by the association in coordination with the Catalan Health Service.
The visit to Parc Taulí is one of the main functions of these children's stay to ensure that they are in good health. After the complete basic review, with the obligatory visit to the Ophthalmology Service, the chronic health problems of some children were followed up with the specialists. The most common ailments of these boys and girls are intestinal parasites, tooth decay, lice and malnutrition problems.
Galia, Abid, Saleh, Omar, Yslem and Hassan are 5 of the X children who have come to Vallès this summer. For two months they will live with a host family who will provide them with an opportunity to live new experiences.
The 'Holidays in Peace' project has been operating since 2004 and offers girls and boys living in refugee camps in Western Sahara a few weeks in Catalonia. The aim is to alleviate the situation of children and their families, especially in the summer, when temperatures reach up to 60 degrees. As well as offering the basic needs of food and healthcare that are not covered.
During two months, July and August, the Vallès Wilaia association organizes activities such as Water Games in Plaça Catalunya in Castellar del Vallès, excursions to the municipal swimming pool or cultural visits. In addition to the other activities that the children do with their host family.
