El WORKSHOPS Core and Emergencies of the Parc Taulí Clinical Laboratory Service have successfully completed the technological renewal project of the automation chain and biochemistry and immunoassay analyzers. To do this, for four months they worked to adapt the existing space together with the company Roche, the supplier company and winner of the tender.
The laboratory Core is themore automated area of the Clinical Laboratories Service; a large volume of samples is processed there with a response time customized to the clinical needs of each patient, such as urgent, preferred or inpatient analyses. In fact, more than 12.000 analytical determinations are made daily.
Also, in this central area is the preanalytical area where around 1.500 requests are received daily with more than 3.500 different samples which are subsequently distributed to the different analytical areas of the specialized laboratories.
"With this technological renewal we have managed to have a faster pre-analytical process with more analytical capacity. We have a robotic refrigerator in the chain with a capacity for more than 15.000 samples that allows a more efficient management of these and a faster response to repetitions or tests added by clinicians. Overall, efficiency has been gained, traceability has improved and analytical capacity has increased", explains Dra. Luz Muñoz, director of the Clinical Laboratory Service.
In addition to the technological improvements, the adequacy of the space has allowed unify the Core laboratory and the emergency laboratory in a shared area. This change allows a greater knowledge transfer among laboratory professionals, as well as a major coordination between the teams.
