The Parc Taulí auditorium hosted today the best practices conference focused on the role of patient associations in the Health System.
The Head of Patient Experience and Citizen Participation at Parc Taulí, Víctor Vergés, opened the session, giving way to the institutional welcome by the general director, Dr. Gemma Craywinckel, who highlighted the importance of promoting “an ongoing relationship between professionals and patients to guarantee healthcare professionalism and, thus, enrich each other”.
During the day, the role of patient associations was made known through testimonies such as that of Marcos Séneca, an expert patient in the field of rheumatology and technician from the Patient Experience team at Parc Taulí. “Associations are fundamental to meet patients' need for support and, in this way, remove doubts and fears”, he explained.
Following the event, Dr. Joan Calvet, head of the Rheumatology Service, presented the REU+ Association, which brings together patients and family members affected by rheumatological diseases. Elisenda de la Torre, president of the association, explained in a conversation with Dr. Calvet that “patients provide knowledge and evidence” to the entire healthcare system.
The session ended with a presentation by the MPS Lysosomal Association. This is a group that works to raise awareness of lysosomal diseases, such as Fabry disease or Gaucher disease. Dr. Víctor Martínez, head of the Rare Diseases Unit, introduced a conversation with Ana Mendoza, president of MPS, who highlighted the importance of medical advisory committees within associations. “in order to guarantee fluid contact between professionals and patients”.
The event was attended by professionals, patients and their families.
