This morning the children who arrived in Sabadell from Western Sahara underwent a routine medical check-up at Parc Taulí. This visit is mandatory as part of the 'Vacances en Pau' project organised by Vallès Wilaia, in the region, in coordination with the Catalan Health Service.
The visit to Parc Taulí is one of the main functions of the stay of these children to ensure that they have a good state of health. After the basic complete review, with the mandatory visit to the Ophthalmology Service, the chronic health problems of some children have been monitored, with the specialists.
Galia, Saleh, Omar, Yslem, Hassan and Mohamed-Lamin are 6 of the ten children who have come to Vallès this summer. For two months they will live with a host family who will provide them with the opportunity to live new experiences.
This is the last summer for most of the children who have come to Sabadell because most are 11 years old and the program is for children between 10 and 12 years old.
The 'Holidays in Peace' project has been operating since 2004 and offers girls and boys living in refugee camps in Western Sahara a few weeks in Catalonia. The aim is to alleviate the situation of children and their families, especially in the summer, when temperatures reach up to 60 degrees. As well as offering the basic needs of food and healthcare that are not covered.
During two months, July and August, the Vallès Wilaia association organizes activities such as Water Games in Plaça Catalunya in Castellar del Vallès, excursions to the municipal swimming pool or cultural visits. In addition to the other activities that the children do with their host family.
