Since July, the Outpatient and Outpatient Pharmacy Unit (UFAPEx) at Parc Taulí has had a new automated medication dispensing system made up of an intelligent robot, which organizes and distributes medication automatically, as well as a dispensing point available 24 hours a day for certain patients.
This new system marks a turning point in the quality of the service offered, as it allows for more exhaustive control of stock and complete traceability of each dispensing. All in all, greater security and reliability in the delivery of treatments is guaranteed. “The system allows us to guarantee that each patient receives exactly the medication they need at the right time and with complete safety. This helps us minimize errors and strengthen trust in the entire healthcare process,” says Dr. Mònica Gómez-Valent, director of the Pharmacy Service.
Likewise, the new automatic dispensing point allows certain patients to collect their medication with complete confidentiality, without the need to adapt to the usual UFAPEx opening hours. “It is a tool designed to facilitate access to treatment, improve patient autonomy and offer a more flexible experience”, explains Jorge del Estal, pharmacist at UFAPEx.
Currently, the Outpatient and Outpatient Pharmacy Unit sees around 200 patients a day and it is estimated that more than 4.000 users will be able to benefit from this system. In fact, it is hoped that this change will reduce waiting times and strengthen continuity of care. “This is not just a technological innovation; it is a clear commitment to improving safety, efficiency and, above all, the patient experience,” concludes the Estal.
The implementation of this new system has been carried out with the healthcare innovation company GPI and under the coordination of the hospital's pharmacy, information systems and maintenance teams.
