This morning, Parc Taulí hosted the multidisciplinary scientific conference on the approach to obstetric pain, organized by the working group for the study and prevention of obstetric violence of the Catalan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (SCOG).

The inauguration was held by the president of Parc Taulí, Dolors Costa; the Director of Care, Dr. Carme Sanclemente, and the Director of the Gynecology and Obstetrics service, Dr. Yolanda Canet. All three agreed on the importance of hosting a conference on this topic to make it visible and to be a place to share experiences, to improve the quality of care for women during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum.

The president of the institution has assured that “Specific needs, from a clinical and emotional point of view, are very important in the approach during this stage.”. In the same vein, Dr. Sanclemente highlighted the importance of "the accompaniment of the woman”, throughout the process. And he insisted on the importance of “put the patient at the center"to improve the quality of care."

The closing of the institutional welcome was made by Dr. Canet who recalled that “each person is unique"and this fact"it is important to help women”. And he has claimed the importance of putting obstetric pain on the table because “Pain in childbirth cannot be taken for granted, we have internalized it. It is necessary to recognize and give the woman attention that helps to reverse it during our accompaniment.".

During the day, how to treat obstetric pain was addressed from different perspectives: neurobiological and/or cultural, very important and with a strong impact for women. As well as new strategies, introducing new professional figures such as the physiotherapist, to alleviate or improve this pain.

The midwife at Parc Taulí, Olga Segarra, has explained which non-pharmacological tools can be used in the management of this pain. And the anesthesiologist, Laura Subirana, has explained the importance of the anesthesiologist in improving the experience of women during childbirth.

The closing talk was given by the obstetrician of Parc Taulí, Dr. Laura Rodellar, who gave the conference 'When pain leaves a mark.

To end the Conference, journalist from the newspaper Ara, Lara Bonilla, moderated a round table in which women who gave their testimony about obstetric pain participated.
