The Nasosinusal Inflammation Unit of the Otorhinolaryngology service at Parc Taulí has been the first unit, of a hospital in Catalonia, to receive the accreditation of excellence, by the Spanish Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery (SEORL-CCC).

It is the first time that the SEORL-CCC accredits these units at the state level to recognize the work and effort of the multidisciplinary team of professionals that make up it. “It is not only an external recognition of quality, but also the validation of the team's commitment to clinical excellence in the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps. In addition, it positions us within the national network of reference units, facilitating scientific and healthcare collaboration with other hospitals. And, personally, it is an opportunity for continuous improvement and professional growth.”, explains Dr. Alda Cardesín, coordinator of the Rhinology Unit at Parc Taulí.

The Nasosinusal Inflammation Unit at Parc Taulí offers comprehensive care to patients with severe forms of chronic rhinosinusitis and severe asthma. Each year, it treats nearly 250 patients with serious illness undergoing treatment with biological drugs., and are carried out around 100 endoscopic nasosinusal surgeries, a figure that demonstrates both the volume and complexity of the cases addressed by the team.

This accreditation will have a direct impact on healthcare "by the self-demand of the professionals who are part of the unit, to continue offering quality care and continue improving the healthcare circuits. The improvement of the clinical control of the disease directly impacts on the improvement of the patient's quality of life and, in turn, on the management of our healthcare resources”, assures Dr. Cardesín.

The accreditation was awarded during the 76th National Congress of the SEORL-CCC in Madrid, where the Nasosinusal Inflammation Unit of the Fundación Jiménez Díaz University Hospital (Madrid) and that of the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital (Santander) were also recognized.

Comprehensive approach to chronic rhinosinusitis

Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is an inflammatory disease of the upper airway with a high prevalence and a strong impact on the quality of life of patients. Its approach has been transformed in recent years thanks to a deeper understanding of the underlying immunological mechanisms, the identification of inflammatory endotypes (especially type 2) and the emergence of targeted biological treatments. This new paradigm requires a multidisciplinary approach, specific diagnostic protocols, monitoring biomarkers and individualized therapeutic strategies to ensure excellent care.

Parc Taulí has a Nasosinusal Inflammation Unit made up of highly specialized teams committed to continuous improvement, quality care and networking. This approach has been recognized by the Spanish Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery with the accreditation of excellence.
