Sant Jordi's Day is a day full of joy and cultural activities. At Parc Taulí, and more specifically at the Day Hospital and the Adolescent Crisis Unit (UCA) of the Child and Youth Mental Health Service, the celebration of Sant Jordi has been present for over a month.
The teenagers in the service areas have designed several book points that have been distributed among the professionals of the Institution. This is an initiative that has favored cohesion between the users, between 14 and 17 years old, and the healthcare professionals. It has also motivated the young people to develop in the creative field. “This activity has helped us minimize the perceived distances between the adolescents and the healthcare team and has allowed us to establish a relationship of trust in a more natural way”, explains Igor Merodio, coordinator of the nursing team of the child and youth mental health service.
The activity took place throughout the month of March, which allowed the young people to have enough time to create the bookmarks. “We often see that many young people lack motivation and initiatives like these, aimed at a community, make them feel good; they feel valued.””, points out Laia Domínguez, occupational therapist at the UCA.
The customs of Sant Jordi's Day in Parc Taulí
Year after year, children and adolescents from the different areas of the Pediatrics Area participate in different activities promoted by the hospital and this year has been no exception.
On the one hand, the boys and girls from the UCA have walked around the pediatric and gynecology hospitalization floor distributing book points that they have prepared themselves. On the other hand, from the hospital classroom they have prepared a stand with books and book points for professionals, young people and family members. On this occasion, the stand has focused on the figure of Carlo Collodi, author of "The Adventures of Pinocchio".
Likewise, during the eve of Sant Jordi's Day, the teenagers of the UCA received a visit from Mónica C. Vidal, literary mediator, and Marina Vidal, illustrator. In the hospital classroom they received the writers Laia Codina, Rosamarí Torrens and Olga Magdaleno. In addition, they received a visit from the Gegants de Sabadell group.
Storytelling competition for professionals
As part of the Consortium's 40th anniversary, the first edition of the short story competition aimed at professionals was launched.
Over the years, thousands of professionals from different fields and responsibilities have contributed to building Parc Taulí. For this reason, the theme of the competition has been Parc Taulí as an Institution, from its professionals to its architectural structure.
In total, thirty-eight professionals presented their stories and a jury made up of professionals from the Corporation, representatives of government bodies and the Council of Entities and Associations, and a writer from the reference area of Parc Taulí deliberated on the first three prizes. They did so following assessment criteria focused on literary quality, expressiveness, emotional or creative impact and linguistic correctness.
The winners of this first edition were Maria del Carmen Almagro, Francisco Epelde and Jordi Auge. All three received checks to buy books at “La Llar del Llibre” in Sabadell and a rose.
