The Parc Taulí Healthcare Corporation Consortium (CCSPT) reaffirms its commitment to the needs of users with the creation of a new toilet adapted for people with ostomies. Specifically, the new bathroom has a space designed for changing ostomies - colloquially known as pouches - which guarantees optimal hygienic, privacy and safety conditions.
Specifically, the bathroom has an adaptable faucet, adequate lighting and a mirror at a specific height to ensure that users have a space that suits their needs when taking care of themselves.
The new toilet is located on floor 0 of the Albada building and, in addition, is adapted to the needs of people with reduced mobility. In fact, it is the first adapted bathroom in Sabadell to appear in the OstomiAseo APP, which allows you to locate toilets that meet the needs of ostomy users.
“Guaranteeing adapted spaces for people with ostomies is essential to normalize a reality that many people experience; it is necessary to emphasize that ostomy patients require adapted toilets to guarantee their quality of life”, says Carmen del Pino, a nurse specializing in the care of ostomy users.
Overall, the creation of the adapted toilet highlights the desire of Parc Taulí to guarantee spaces that meet the needs of the users who come to the center.
Care for people with ostomies at Parc Taulí
Ostomies are openings in the skin that are surgically created after some digestive and/or urological surgeries where the placement of a bag/device is required to collect the expulsion of feces and/or urine. This change has a great emotional impact on the daily lives of people with ostomies.
That's why the new adapted toilet in Parc Taulí “it is another way of caring for users, in addition to the same care work that we provide as healthcare professionals”, says nurse specialist in ostomies María del Carmen Agudo.
Following this line, the toilet has the approval of the Catalan Association of Ostomy Patients (ACO). In fact, Mr. Josep Puigdomenech, secretary of the Taulí of Directors of the ACO, visited the facilities today with Dr. Camen Sanclemente, care director, Mr. Francesc Luque, director of economics and services, nurses Maria del Carmen Agudo and Carmen del Pino and the nursing coordinator, Javier García.
