Presentation

The Digestive System Service consists of 20 doctors assistants and two residents per year (pending approval of a third resident per year). The service, at the same time, is divided into 3 specialized units: Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Digestive Endoscopy to offer greater knowledge and service.

The service has a Day hospital which provides continuous and scheduled care every working day (8 a.m. to 17 p.m.). All those patients monitored by the Service who present an exacerbation or decompensation of their basic digestive disease are treated. On the other hand, all those scheduled procedures are carried out which, due to their characteristics, require hospital assistance (liver biopsy, infusion of biological treatments, intravenous iron, etc.).

on the floor ofhospitalization, the Digestive System Service treats between 35-40 hospitalized patients from the areas of gastroenterology and hepatology with acute digestive pathology or severe decompensation of their underlying disease. Patients awaiting admission located in the Emergency Department are also treated by doctors from our service.

On Saturdays there is a on-call digestologist (adjunct or MEF 4) from 8 to 20 and he provides coverage to patients admitted to our service and they are interconsultants of patients with digestive pathology in the hospital.

Now Digestive Endoscopy Unit both basic and advanced endoscopic examinations are performed: gastroscopy, colonoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, echoendoscopy, endoscopic capsule, enteroscopy and functional tests (pHmetry, esophageal and anorectal manometry), as well as many highly complex procedures such as radiofrequency, punctures guided by echoendoscopy , etc. Gastrointestinal endoscopy guards are available after hours covering every day of the year.

The care of patients with digestive pathology is carried out within a multidisciplinary field.
