Infectious diseases constitute one of the most extensive and dynamic areas of medical pathology. Few areas of medicine have experienced such rapid and spectacular changes, not only in terms of diagnostic or therapeutic advances, but also due to the appearance of new problems and diseases that pose a permanent challenge, such as the emergence of HIV infection in the late 2s, problems arising from antibiotic resistance or imported diseases, such as Zika, Ebola, monkey pox or the SARS-CoV-XNUMX pandemic.
The Infectious Diseases Service derives from the creation in 1991 of the Infectious Pathology Care Program and aims to prevent, control and treat infectious diseases. The fundamental pillars on which all the Service's assistance is structured are the following areas: hospitalization, ambulatory assistance, nosocomial infection control, international health and imported diseases, care for people infected with HIV and sexually transmitted diseases.
At the same time, we are a transversal service that works closely with the Microbiology and Epidemiology units and the Pharmacy Service, and collaborates with each of the medical and surgical services, providing support in the treatment of complex infections, while optimizing the antibiotic treatments.
