Monitor of recording of vital constants

The Intensive Medicine Service of the Parc Taulí Health Corporation, located on the first floor of the Gran Via Building, provides care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the Critical Care Unit II and the Prehospital Area. The ICU has 27 individual monitored rooms for patients in need of advanced life support treatment and an examination room for radiological studies and placement of temporary cardiac pacemakers. The second, adjacent to the ICU, with 12 monitored beds for patients at intermediate risk and in need of specific care in the critical area. The ICU and Critical II are part of the hospital's Critical Care Area, which guarantees multidisciplinary assistance to critical patients 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Finally, the Prehospital Area carries out its professional activity both on the ground and in the air, using the Rapid Intervention Vehicle (VIR), the Advanced Life Support Unit (USVA) and the medical helicopter.

The Intensive Medicine Service attends to more than 1000 highly complex critical patients per year from the region of Vallès Occidental, Central Catalonia and La Cerdanya; and leads transversal programs of the hospital such as the Sepsis Code, care for Cardiorespiratory arrest and the Organ Donation and Transplantation Program.

The ICU, Crítics II and the Prehospital Area are made up of 44 specialist doctors, 15 doctors in training, 111 nurses, 72 technicians in auxiliary nursing care and 2 physiotherapists. The members of the service participate in the teaching activities of the University, teaching theoretical classes related to the management of the critical patient and practical seminars. Likewise, the Nursing Postgraduate Course in Integral Assistance to the Severe Traumatic Patient and Integral Assistance to the Critically Ill with Cardiovascular and/or Respiratory Pathology is being organized with a wide participation of nurses from all over Catalonia. It also receives Medicine and Nursing students during their internships.

With regard to specialized healthcare training, the Intensive Care Medicine Service is accredited for the training of 3 residents per year in the specialty of Intensive Care Medicine. It also hosts residents from other medical and surgical specialties of the hospital who complete part of their training program in the ICU. In addition, residents of Intensive Medicine from other centers, both national and foreign, are regularly at the service for more specific training stays.

The research activity is developed in multiple areas of Intensive Care Medicine, which includes hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, sepsis, serious infections, critical neurological pathology, the neuropsychological and physical sequelae of critical illness and humanization, among others The research groups are made up of a multidisciplinary team of intensivist doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, biologists and data engineers who carry out their own studies and in collaboration with other national and international centres. The results of this scientific activity have allowed the consolidation of the group in national and international forums, resulting in publications in high-impact journals that are of great importance in maintaining the quality of care provided by the Service.
