FAV

FAV

It consists in establishing a connection called anastomosis, between an artery and a superficial vein for the development and puncture of the latter.

Recommendations

  • Check the functioning of the fistula daily by touching the area of the anastomosis with your fingers to hear the murmur of the fistula or thrill.
  • Avoid bumps and compress the fistula arm (watch, tight clothes, carry shopping bag, mobilize carafes, circular or compressed bandages ...).
  • DO NOT USE the fistula arm to perform blood tests or blood pressure.

Basic care after hemodialysis

  1. Remove dressings / tirites 24 hours from placement.
  2. Perform warm water baths with salt in the fistula arm on the days that do not come to hemodialysis.
  3. Apply a slight circular massage to the puncture area with Thrombocid.

Remember: Whenever you come to the hospital, identify your FAVI arm with your wristband.

Graft

It is created by interposing a U-shaped plastic tube that is put under the skin to join the artery and vein. This can be put on the arm or lower extremity.

It is advisable to take into account the same recommendations, basic care and alarm signs in front of a graft as in the case of a FAVI.

BUTTONHOLE

BUTTONHOLE

FAVI puncture method at a single point, with the same angle and depth at each hemodialysis session, creating a subcutaneous tunnel that facilitates puncture and minimizes complications.

It is advisable to take into account the same recommendations, basic care and alarm signs in front of a Buttonhole as in front of a FAVI.

Catheter

Catheter

It consists of the insertion of a device with two lights into an important vein, usually jugular or femoral. Blood comes out of one light, which is purified and returned clean by the other light in the catheter. There are two types of catheters according to their duration: transient or permanent.
