Normally there is always an alteration on the emotional level to the person entering the hemodialysis program and to his or her immediate environment. The new situation must be adapted to their usual habits individually, according to the need of each patient, and affect the diet and medications changes adhered to the new treatment.
Hemodialysis schedules should also be adjusted to work hours, if required, and not to limit activities at home, at work, with family or friends, as it is vital and helps them both physically and emotionally. Whether hemodialysis affects to a greater or lesser degree will depend on the personality of the person and their immediate environment, but should always have the support of the staff of the HD center, to guide them in their new situation.
Kidney failure can lead to problems with intimacy, such as fatigue, sexual failure or helplessness, in the case of men. Most of these problems can be solved. The vast majority of kidney patients may lead a normal sex life.
Getting pregnant while on hemodialysis is completely contraindicated and although the chance of pregnancy is low, it is not impossible, so birth control measures are recommended.
Maintaining good physical activity brings many benefits if you have kidney failure:
- It strengthens your heart and your bones.
- Avoid weight gain.
- Decreases blood pressure and decreases the likelihood of heart disease.
- You will feel more energized.
It will improve the rest during the nights.
They should avoid activities or sports that jeopardize the operation of the FAVI, or that jeopardize the normal operation of the catheter.
Kidney disease does not mean stop traveling. However, special considerations must be taken:
- Plan your trip in advance to receive renal replacement treatment at another center.
Inform your nurse and referring physician for the necessary steps and a medical report to be delivered at the dialysis center.
