In cardiovascular function, hemodynamic monitoring and advanced echocardiography in the critically ill patient.

The Working Group on Cardiovascular Function and Hemodynamic Monitoring in the Critically Ill Area has a long and recognized track record. Its objectives have been to improve the quality of care in the resuscitation of shock and in the treatment of serious cardiovascular diseases through the development of protocols and care guidelines, the application of new treatments and the introduction of ultrasound and new hemodynamic monitoring techniques. On the other hand, this Working Group has put a special interest in promoting clinical and experimental research in hemodynamics / echocardiography, as well as in promoting teaching in hemodynamics and advanced echocardiography and is a reference in this field.

At present, the Working Group on Cardiovascular Function and Hemodynamic Monitoring is composed of the following members:

Dra. Ana Ochagavía Calvo. Head of the Critically Ill Area.

Areas of interest: cardiovascular function and hemodynamic monitoring in the critically ill patient. Advanced echocardiography in the ICU.

Training stays:

  • Echocardiography laboratory of the Cardiology Service. Hospital Clínic de Barcelona.
  • Medical Resuscitation. Bicêtre Hospital Center. France.

Director and teacher in postgraduate courses related to cardiorespiratory pathology, ultrasound courses and hemodynamic monitoring. Research activity related to these areas of interest.

European certification of adult transthoracic (TTE) from the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (ESCVI).
European certification of adult transesophageal (TEE) from the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (ESCVI).
Teacher in Master of the critically ill and emergencies in topics related to cardiorespiratory pathology. Research activity related to these areas of interest.

Dra. Cristina Espinal. Junior Assistant Physician.

Areas of interest: cardiovascular function and hemodynamic monitoring in the critically ill patient. Advanced echocardiography in the ICU.

Echocardiography laboratory of the Cardiology Service. Hospital Clínic de Barcelona.

Teacher in ultrasound courses in the critically ill patient. Research activity related to these areas of interest.

 

In addition, the group is in close collaboration with the Translational Research Laboratory of the Fundació Parc Taulí - I3PT. This group is led by Dr. Lluis Blanch Torra (MD, PhD) senior researcher specializing in Intensive Care Medicine and Director of Research and Innovation at I3PT and part of the CIBER of Respiratory Diseases in addition to having the recognition as a consolidated group of pathophysiology associated with critically ill by the Generalitat de Catalonia. Dra. Fina López Aguilar, also a member of the group, has a PhD in biology and is a senior researcher in the Miguel Servet program. Dra. López Aguilar is an expert in animal models of pathophysiology associated with the critically ill, mechanical ventilation, respiratory pathophysiology and interaction between organs.
