Before a new treatment reaches patients, it often starts here: in a sample preserved at -80 degrees below zero in the Biobank. This strategic and fundamental space for biomedical research is the starting point of a new installment of the informative series 'Science in 2 minutes'.
Guided by the Biobank director, Nestor Albiñana, and laboratory techniques Neus Gomez i Sara Leon, the public will discover What is a biobank, how does it work and what role does it play in health research? The video also explains how biological samples are managed and preserved under strictly controlled conditions and what ethical and confidentiality guarantees ensure the entire process.
Beyond its management and conservation, The samples held in the Biobank are essential for better understanding diseases and developing new treatments. This infrastructure allows research teams to work with quality materials, providing data and resources that facilitate biomedical studies and contribute to advancing knowledge that, ultimately, can translate into real improvements for patient health.
