Last week, the first meetings began at Parc Taulí with the companies that won the tenders for the projects through innovative public procurement (CPI). The ICC is a tool to foster innovation from the public sector through the acquisition of innovative or developing solutions. The companies selected are Pulso Ediciones (for Feeding Care) and Teckel Medical (for Digital Transformation of Emergency Triage). Both companies will have until the end of 2023 to solve the challenge posed.

The two tendered projects are a system to support breastfeeding in hospitals and the digital transformation of emergency triage. Both projects are co-financed by the Catalan Health Service and the European Regional Development Fund of the European Union in the framework of the ERDF Operational Program for Catalonia 2014 - 2020 with more than € 200.000 each:

Feeding Care: Information and support system for breastfeeding in hospitals

The Feeding Care project aims to improve the system of supply and storage of breast and artificial milk in the hospital environment. It consists of optimizing the prey or baby bottles of the babies according to the stocks available at the time of the prey, the guideline indicated by the doctor or nurse, and the health status of the infant.

Feeding Care is a milk manager for hospitals that guarantees traceability and the highest quality of products. It incorporates intelligent instruments through a mobile application that interacts with the in-hospital device. The execution of this project will improve the food safety of children under one year of age admitted to hospitals in Catalonia and will reduce the costs of product loss.

Digital transformation of the hospital emergency triage system by applying Artificial Intelligence

The public health system establishes different resources and circuits in order to respond to the demand for immediate citizen care. This demand takes the form of different situations that require a different care response: from life-threatening situations for the affected person to demands for minor emergencies.

The Parc Taulí proposes a new digital Symptom Assessment (AS) system to prioritize patient care based on their level of urgency, as well as the implementation of an Advanced Resolution Care Unit. The care model is based on a triage system, using Artificial Intelligence, which classifies patients into 5 levels of urgency.

The implementation of this project will reduce the waiting time of patients in hospital emergency services, facilitate the decision-making of health professionals working in this level of care, will lead to overall economic savings, and will improve the quality and service security.

  • subsidy: 206.164,00 €
  • Selected company: Teckel Medical SL

In Parc Taulí, the implementation of these projects has been prioritized through the creation of multidisciplinary teams of doctors, nurses, economists, lawyers, innovation technicians and hospital managers who have been working together for three years to reach the current point with these two projects. This includes from the preparation of the call, the preparation of the tender documents, the evaluation of the companies and the economic justifications.

This teamwork has fostered innovative culture at all levels of hospital management. The consolidation of the transversal model of innovation has generated the interest of companies in the area and has made Parc Taulí one of the Catalan hospitals with the most innovative public procurement projects funded by the Catalan Health Service with European funds for regional development.
