How and why research in surgery it is the first manual published in the State that is aimed at surgeons and that addresses this subject
The coordinator of the research area of Surgery and Interventional Procedures of the I3PT, Xavier Serra Aracil, has published the book How and why research in surgery. It is about the first manual to be published in the State aimed at surgeons and focused on research in the field of surgery.
The book is also the work of surgeons Manuel Lopez Cano i Eduardo M. Targarona Soler -all of them are members of the Spanish Association of Surgeons (AEC) and full professors of the Surgery Department of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) - and in collaboration with 40 other professionals from all over the State. As the authors emphasize “the purpose of this manual is to provide a tool for increase quality research in our specialty".
As they explain, "the orientation of the project is eminently practical, with the aim of being useful to both trainee and senior surgeons". The intention is to create a manual that serves to "increase methodological knowledge and consequently the quality of clinical research carried out in our specialty".
As the president of the AEC, Salvador Morales-Conde, points out, "this guide represents a very important contribution to increase the quality of surgery and surgeons of our country and will become a reference for all those who want to develop a research study". The president adds that "this manual will encourage the investigative spirit that a surgeon must have in the search for solutions to improve our actions and our decision-making".
Dr. Serra concludes that “advances in surgery are based, among other things, on the ability of surgeons to investigate surgical problems. Everything starts with a critical mentality, a great power of observation and recording the results of everything that is done".
