  • The Parc Taulí Research and Innovation Institute (I3PT) and the Hospital Clínic sign a collaboration agreement to develop innovation projects using 3D technology
  • The consolidated trajectory of the 3D Laboratory of the Parc Taulí and the obtaining of the license to manufacture customized health products, place it as a pioneering and reference center in Europe in the medical use of 3D printing. For its part, the Hospital Clínic has established itself internationally for its excellence in assistance and biomedical research, and has developed several innovative projects linked to 3D

The Parc Taulí Research and Innovation Institute (I3PT) and the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona have signed a collaboration agreement with the aim of co-develop innovation projects in new products and services in the hospital and health field related to 3D technology.

The signing ceremony was attended by the director of the Parc Taulí Health Corporation, Anna Aran, the general director of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, Josep Maria Campistol, the scientific director of the I3PT, Lluís Blanch, the director of the Clinical Advanced Technologies Institute of the Clinic, Lluís Donoso, and the medical and technical coordinators of the Parc Taulí 3D Laboratory, Ferran Fillat and Toni Nadal.

As they highlighted during the event, this agreement will allow "joining efforts and generating synergies by providing knowledge, technology and know-how of the 3D laboratories of both institutions in order to develop innovative projects that respond to clinical challenges and, in short, bring great progress for people's health".

El growth of the Parc Taulí 3D Laboratory and the development of flagship projects has been, since its beginnings, a strategic objective of the I3PT. The 3D Laboratory was born in 2015, under the leadership of traumatologist Ferran Fillat, within the set of technological platforms of the I3PT that provide services for research, teaching and innovation. Throughout these years, outstanding projects have been developed such as the PIT3D or the creation of the spin-off Tailor Surgery. In 2022, ha obtained the license to manufacture customized health products, making it the third hospital in the State upon receiving it. Likewise, the 3D Laboratory works closely with healthcare professionals in a large volume of cases so that patients can benefit directly from the application of 3D in the medical field.

In the same way, the Clinical Hospital has become one international benchmark for excellence in assistance and biomedical research, and has developed several innovative projects linked to 3D technology with application to biomedicine. Some of the most outstanding cases have been the planning and simulation of particularly complex neuroradiological interventions, the performance of 3D endoscopic prostate surgeries for the first time in the world, or the use of the High Definition (HD) 3D technique in laparoscopic surgery , also for the first time worldwide. In the field of 3D printing they have been made 8 assistance innovation projectsl from the coordination of the Directorate of Infrastructure and Biomedical Engineering.

With this agreement, both institutions take another step in theirs consolidation as units referring to the State in the use of 3D printing technology to diagnose and treat patients, and develop solutions that add value to provide an effective response to the current and future challenges of the biomedical sector.
