The Parc Taulí Research and Innovation Institute (I3PT) has been chosen again as the body in charge of the coordination of the ITEMS Platform during the 2024-2026 period, according to the final Resolution of the call for ISCIII platforms to support R+D+i in Biomedicine and Health Sciences, published by the Carlos III Health Institute last December.
The ITEMAS Platform is a support structure for healthcare innovation that aims to facilitate the innovative ideas of healthcare professionals to generate value for the system, by promoting the transfer of technology, the culture of innovation and communication with the rest of society.
In this resolution, the 26 entities that will form part of the ITEMS Platform have also been financed as nodes during this biennial stage, among which is also the Institute. These nodes, together with the more than 110 affiliated centers and the more than 100 collaborators, they work for the development of health innovation projects in the territory.
"The ITEMAS platform, through its nodes, has extended the concept of innovation and knowledge transfer to society and the business fabric beyond large consolidated institutions, to reach numerous hospitals and health centers. Innovation is associated with excellent care and, for this reason, it is present in most hospitals and health centers in our National Health System", explains Lluís Blanch, director of the I3PT and coordinator of ITEMAS
Under his coordination during the period 2021-2023, the creation of the Support program for innovation projects arising from affiliated nodes and centers, in order to guarantee their transfer to the National Health System; the establishment of alliances with different organizations, inside and outside the Instituto de Salud Carlos III; the constitution of five commissions (transfer, quality, international, promotion and communication) that have supported the coordination of ITEMAS and have carried out numerous training and knowledge exchange activities; and the celebration of Annual Meeting ITEMS, in 2021 in Zaragoza, in 2022 in Córdoba and in 2023 in Cádiz, with the aim of enhancing joint and transversal work with other ISCIII platforms.
Other points worked on during this period have been the implementation and monitoring of the ITEMAS Quality Plan, the search for and interaction with national and international investors to make the platform and the projects in the portfolio known, the celebration of the 1st Forum of ITEMAS Investment – which served as a meeting point between innovation projects, investors and main players in the healthcare entrepreneurship ecosystem – and the I Pitch Competition in online format for projects with the ITEMAS seal of quality.
