The Parc Taulí Research and Innovation Institute (I3PT) celebrated today the ceremony of handing over the 26th edition of the Taulí Scholarships, intended to encourage and enhance research and innovation among the institution's professionals.

This year, they were awarded 15 Taulí Scholarships - out of a total of 70 nominations submitted, counting all categories - with one total allocation of 132.000 euros. Since the first edition held in 1999, more than 2.6M euros have been granted to projects that have boosted biomedical research and innovation, a very relevant figure within the health research sector in our country.

The director of the I3PT, Salvador Ventura, was in charge of opening the event with a review of his first months at the head of the Institute, of which he claims to be very happy: "All changes are challenges, but also opportunities and I am sure that, with the work of the whole team we will see them flourish very soon".

During his speech, he underlined some of the most outstanding achievements of the year, such as the re-accreditation of the I3PT as a CERCA centre; the coordination of the ITEMAS ISCIII platform, which reaffirms the Institute's position as an outstanding center in innovation transfer; and the premiere of the new laboratories, an infrastructure that, according to the director, will be key to fostering internal synergy and will be key to generating joint projects between research groups.

For his part, Dolores Costa, president of the CSPT, wanted to underline the excellence of all the projects presented and issued a call to researchers: "Linking care and research activity is very important to continue with innovation and development of medicine I encourage even more projects to be presented next year so that Parc Taulí remains a research center of reference".

During the event, it was delivered 9 Research and Innovation Taulí grants - out of a total of 52 presented - with one endowment of 70.000 euros, as well as 2 Scholarships Step up al Taulí 2025, which have an endowment of 60.000 Euros thanks to the support of Banco Sabadell Foundation, which contributes 45.000 of the total, and which allows professionals to devote part of the healthcare day to research.

2 scholarships have also been awarded to most outstanding scientific publications of the year, 1 scholarship to the best doctoral thesis defended by I3PT professionals and a scholarship for the best research project carried out by UAB Medicine students.

In addition to this, the attendees had the opportunity to listen to the keynote speech "Architects of the Future" by Julius Mayol, professor of surgery at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and head of the general surgery section at the Hospital Clínico San Carlos. Mayol, recognized as one of the great leaders of medical innovation in the State, has reflected on the present and future of health and research, and how artificial intelligence is transforming the sector: "We are in a moment of technological revolution and we cannot afford to remain anchored in an industrial model".

We need to face the ethical and legal challenges that this revolution poses to us and build now what will happen in the future"

Luis Blanch, until this year director of the Institute and coordinator of the ITEMAS-ISCIII platform, closed the event by collecting Mayol's message: "We are looking to the future with very clear ideas of where the Institute should go. Parc Taulí is a first-class institution that is at the service of society to offer the best of knowledge and science to our patients. And we will continue to do so."
