Aina Areny, researcher in the group of translational research in critically ill patients of the Parc Taulí Research and Innovation Institute (I3PT), has been one of the four doctoral theses winning the 2025 Pioner Awards, awarded by the CERCA Institution. These awards recognize the doctoral theses with the most potential to transform scientific knowledge into real solutions for society and the market.
The awarded project addresses a innovative therapeutic strategy for the treatment of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), a serious pathology that currently has no specific treatments. Areny's proposal combines the use of microRNAs encapsulated in inhalable nanocapsules, a pioneering approach with a clear translational focus and potential clinical application.
This approach represents a step forward in the field of personalized medicine i advanced therapies for critical respiratory pathologies, with the aim of bringing scientific innovation to patients.
The final event of the Pioner 2025 Awards brought together researchers, institutions and collaborating entities, and highlighted the importance of knowledge and technology transfer as a key tool for generating social, economic and industrial impact from research.
In addition to this recognition, the researcher has also received one of the two awards for the best doctoral thesis defended by I3PT professionals a the Taulí Scholarships event celebrated this Thursday.
