- His research will focus on the study of psychiatric and neurological disorders to improve their diagnosis, prognosis and treatment.
Mental disorders and neurological diseases are among the conditions that most impact the daily lives of those who suffer from them.. Currently, they are the main cause of disability in the world, with more than 3 billion people affected. To deepen the knowledge of these pathologies, the Parc Taulí Research and Innovation Institute (I3.000PT) has promoted the Clinical and Translational Research Group in Psychiatric and Neurological Disorders (PSINEU).
The group is part of the Neurosciences and Mental Health area of the I3PT, coordinated by Diego Palao, and is co-led by psychiatrists and researchers Virginia Soria i Itziar MontalvoPSINEU brings together research staff from the Psychiatry and Neurology services of the Parc Taulí University Hospital, some of whom also carry out teaching activities at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Gimbernat University School.
His research will focus on the study of the clinical, biological and psychosocial mechanisms involved in serious mental disorders, neurological diseases and neuropsychiatric disorders.The goal is improve the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of these pathologies, with special attention to the identification of biomarkers and therapeutic personalization within the framework of precision medicine.
The group will also analyze how factors such as age, sex, gender or early adverse experiences influence mental and neurological health throughout life, with special interest in areas such as neurodegenerative diseases, perinatal mental health, sleep disorders or the transition to psychosis in vulnerable populations.
PSINEU keeps active the research lines of the Psychoneuroendocrinology and stress in psychosis group of the I3PT, which was previously led by Javier Labad, and proposes new ones to promote the research strategy in psychiatry and neurology at Parc Taulí.
In recent years, group members have obtained national and international competitive funding and participate in research networks such as CIBERSAM, as well as in groups recognized by the Agency for the Management of University and Research Grants (AGAUR). It also participates in the Mixed Translational Neuroscience Unit with the Institute of Neuroscience of the UAB.
