- XISCAT, in collaboration with I3PT and Almirall, organizes the first day of innovation in health processes in Catalonia to claim its impact on healthcare quality, system sustainability and integrated care
The 1st Conference on Innovation in Health Processes in Catalonia, organized by the Network of Innovation in Health Processes of Catalonia (XISCAT) with the support of Almirall, brought together this Tuesday in Parc Taulí more than 130 professionals from health centers, public institutions, research entities and companies in the sector to share experiences and reflect on the strategic role of innovation in processes as a driver of transformation of the healthcare and social system.
The conference was promoted with the aim of giving visibility to a dimension of innovation that often remains in the background, but which also has a direct impact on the system, as explained by Martin Leon, coordinator of XISCAT and head of the Innovation Unit of the Parc Taulí Research and Innovation Institute (I3PT). «Process innovation is a key tool to transform the system and improve the organization of care, the coordination between professionals, the healthcare circuits i theefficiency of services, with benefits for patients, families and professionals."
Likewise, the XISCAT coordinator highlighted the need to promote collaboration spaces like this to accelerate the transformation of processes. Collaboration between the public and private sectors is essential to drive innovation in processes and generate value for both the healthcare system and patients.".
Sharing experiences to transform the system
The conference combined presentations on consolidated experiences with three round tables dedicated to main challenges of process innovation: the incorporation of innovative initiatives into healthcare practice, the integration between the health and social spheres, and the governance models of innovation in health centers.
Professionals from organizations across Catalonia have shared initiatives that are already improving healthcare quality, organizational efficiency and patient experience through process transformation.
Among the participants were representatives from the Department of Health, CatSalut, Biocat, TIC Salut Social, hospitals, research institutes, societies and leading healthcare entities, who agreed on the need to create mechanisms that facilitate the transfer and scalability of innovations that demonstrate results.
In this way, Manel Balcells, director of the IBé and former Minister of Health, has remarked that "innovation must be inherent in the centres" and has pointed out that "the great challenge is to manage to incorporate this innovation into the system as a whole and have mechanisms that allow the impact and capacity to improve it to be evaluated."
An innovation with direct impact
The conference highlighted that, faced with the major challenges facing the healthcare and social system —such as the aging of the population, the increase in chronic conditions, healthcare pressure or the need for more integrated care—, Process innovation is an essential tool to guarantee the sustainability of the system.
