RRI: responsible research and innovation

The I3PT, with its ethical and social commitment, is in line with the principles of the RRI and promotes in its institution an inclusive research and innovation, oriented to the society where its results are desired, ethical and necessary and a research and innovation that is done under the principle of economic and environmental sustainability.

What is RRI?

RRI is the English acronym for Responsible Research and Innovation, which aims to achieve sustainable, ethically acceptable and socially desirable results. It promotes that all involved agents or interest groups work together in the research and innovation process.

The RRI contemplates different agendas necessary to achieve this purpose:

1. Citizen participation: All the actors involved must participate in the research and innovation process, with the aim of aligning the results with the values, needs and expectations of European society.

2. Gender equality: Incorporate the gender dimension into all stages of R&D&I to improve the quality and social impact of the results. Promote gender-balanced teams at all levels of the Institute's organizational structure and integrate this perspective into research and innovation planning.

3. Science education: improve the educational model to provide citizens with the necessary skills and knowledge that allow them to participate in decision-making related to research and innovation, as well as promote scientific vocations and increase the number of researchers.

4. Ethics: take into account the integrity of research by preventing unacceptable practices, as well as promoting reflection on the relationship between science and society to guarantee the ethical acceptance of scientific and technological advances.

5. Open access: promote open access from the early stages of scientific work to improve the quality of research, facilitate faster innovation, encourage constructive collaborations and foster productive dialogue with civil society.

6. Governance: have robust and adaptable governance to respond to the dynamic and unpredictable nature of research and innovation, sharing responsibility among a wide diversity of actors and providing instruments that foster this shared responsibility.

I3PT's RRI policy

LOur Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) policy aims to establish an institutional framework for the development and implementation of the different RRI agendas within the institute.
