Epidemiology, Care Improvement and Chronicity
- About the area
- Groups
The research area of Epidemiology, Care Improvement and Chronicity is made up of a multidisciplinary group of professionals from the Corporation (Hospital de Sabadell, Albada Sociosanitary Center, Primary Care and Sabadell Elderly).
It presents different lines of work, such as care for the chronic or fragile patient, improvement of care processes, improvement of quality of life, satisfaction, adherence to treatment, cost-effectiveness studies, effectiveness studies, study of prevalent diseases and of health problems considered a priority.
The aim of the Area is to promote and generate epidemiological information that improves the health of the population from different scientific approaches. Improve healthcare outcomes and care processes. Develop and innovate practices and organizational models that can improve care processes. All this in order to be able to respond to the reference population with quality health and social care.
The health professionals who are part of the line have published in national and international journals, participating as principal investigators or collaborating researchers in different research projects. They work actively with other institutional bodies such as the healthcare network of Manresa, Mútua de Terrassa, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, among others. Different groups participate in the Networked Biomedical Research Centers (CIBER). CIBER of Public Health and CIBER of Respiratory Diseases and with the Research Network in Health Services in Chronic Diseases (REDISSEC).

- Study of the impact of COVID-19 infections and other pandemics.
- Improving chronic patient care.
- Nursing assessment and care.
- Quality, safety and traceability of the patient cared for by health services.

Group A7G2 – Epidemiology, Clinical Management and Quality
Accreditation level: Consolidated group
The group's objective is to deepen research in the field of health services through the analysis of clinical practice in the most prevalent pathologies and procedures in the population. This approach allows for improved decision-making and identification of the needs of citizens in order to optimize results in the clinical, social and quality of life dimensions.
In this context, the group focuses its activity on promoting innovation in research in health services, systematically incorporating the population's perspective into healthcare processes.
The group is made up of a multidisciplinary team of professionals, which includes doctors and nurses, epidemiologists and clinicians from various medical specialties, as well as prevention service professionals.

Group A7G7 – Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Accreditation level: Associated group
The Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MMF) research group is made up of professionals from the Gynecology and Obstetrics Service. It is a multidisciplinary team made up of specialists in gynecology, pathology and maternal-fetal medicine, which carries out translational research aimed at applying scientific advances directly to clinical practice with the aim of improving the health of patients.
In the field of gynecology, the group focuses its activity on several clinical lines related to gynecological pathology and problems affecting pregnancy and the health of the mother and fetus. Among the main areas of study are pelvic floor dysfunctions, endometriosis, uterine myomatosis, adnexal cysts, alterations of the uterine cavity, diseases of the lower female genital tract and gynecological cancers (such as ovarian, endometrial, vulva and breast). Aspects related to reproductive endocrinology and functional sterility are also addressed.
In maternal-fetal medicine, the group specializes in the study of conditions that can compromise pregnancy and put both the mother and the fetus at risk, such as placental insufficiency, prematurity and advanced genetic diagnosis. In this area, innovative techniques are used such as exome analysis and the study of free fetal DNA in maternal blood, which allow more precise treatments, less invasive interventions and prevention strategies adapted to each situation.
The group's diagnostic and treatment activities also incorporate the use of advanced technologies such as ultrasound, which facilitates guided interventions and, in some cases, fetal surgeries and therapeutic procedures directly on the fetus. In parallel, work is being done on the development of prophylactic and medical treatments to improve maternal and fetal health during pregnancy. This context has allowed participation in several lines of research in the field of MMF, especially in placental insufficiency, prematurity and advanced genetic diagnosis, with the desire to continue contributing as an associated research group.
Currently, the group actively collaborates in multi-center projects with prestigious research centers, such as the Bellvitge Hospital and the Vall d'Hebron Hospital. These collaborations allow to expand the scope of biomedical and clinical research and contribute to the improvement of maternal-fetal and gynecological health. It also maintains collaborations with other groups of the I3PT, such as the Biomedical Research in Cancer, the Mental Health and Neurosciences and the Nursing.
