{"id":540,"date":"2019-10-09T17:06:25","date_gmt":"2019-10-09T15:06:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tauli.cat\/institut\/?p=540"},"modified":"2019-11-25T17:06:37","modified_gmt":"2019-11-25T15:06:37","slug":"a-new-method-to-detect-patient-ventilator-interactions-in-critically-ill-patients-receiving-mechanical-ventilation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tauli.cat\/institut\/actualitat\/divulgacio-cientifica\/2019\/10\/a-new-method-to-detect-patient-ventilator-interactions-in-critically-ill-patients-receiving-mechanical-ventilation\/","title":{"rendered":"A new method to detect patient-ventilator interactions in critically ill patients receiving mechanical ventilation","gt_translate_keys":[{"key":"rendered","format":"text"}]},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\">[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In order to study the<strong> interactions between critically ill patients receiving invasive mechanical ventilation and the machine<\/strong>, CIBER Researchers from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tauli.cat\/hospital\/uci-semicritics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Critical Care\u00a0Unit of Parc Tauli<\/a> in collaboration with researchers from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.althaia.cat\/althaia\/ca\/homepage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Althaia Foundation<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.irblleida.org\/es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IRBLleida<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/bettercare.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BetterCare<\/a> developed a new non-invasive approach based on non-linear methods in order to better characterize those in a group of patient who were clinically ready to be liberated from the ventilator and in a group of patients who remove the endotracheal tube by themselves.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The main findings were that the non-linear method was reliable, with high sensitivity, specificity and accuracy to detect patient-ventilator interactions whenever they become complex, and that those interactions occur more frequently in patients who were successfully liberated from the ventilator.
