Presentation and objectives

The use of ultrasound in the hands of the nephrologist or any specialist who works in the renal area has become a fundamental tool when it comes to making clinical practice profitable on a day-to-day basis with a patient as complex as the one presenting a nephropathy Comprehensive decision-making when knowledge of the patient's history, the clinical condition at a precise moment, the physical examination and the morphological and dynamic ultrasound examination is combined, makes decision-making a highly efficient process. The benefit becomes immediate both for the main beneficiary, which is the patient, and for the health system that will benefit from the optimization of resource management. The great advantage, in addition, of being able to work in an interdisciplinary way with all the specialties with which decision-making is shared, further optimizes these decisions, both diagnostic and therapeutic.

This is why the use of ultrasound by the Nephrologist or any specialist who treats this type of patient can become a highly useful tool. Working in a coordinated manner with cardiologists, pulmonologists, radiologists and vascular surgeons can result in a decrease in morbidity.

The objective is to provide the nephrologist and the specialists involved in this area with the decision-making capacity in all those processes that require a diagnosis, therapeutic decision or interventional procedure in the patient with any type of renal pathology, both with repercussion limited to the kidney and systemic mode To do this, all the concepts associated with:

  • Physical principles of ultrasound and use of the ultrasound

  • Ultrasound of the kidney and urinary tract

  • Cardiac ultrasound - FoCUS

  • lung ultrasound

  • State of congestion – VExUS

  • Supraaortic trunks and arterial and venous system of the lower extremities

  • Abdominal aorta and renal artery

  • Parathyroid

  • Peritoneal dialysis

  • Muscle ultrasound and nutritional assessment

The training in relation to Vascular Access is not included, given that it is provided in another specific course: Theoretical-Practice Ultrasound Course for Vascular Access in Hemodialysis. https://www.tauli.cat/hospital/pav - See in Teaching).

Aimed at nephrologists and specialists who work with renal patients.

We hope to provide you with a good environment, comfortable to learn and share your experience. We hope you enjoy the interdisciplinary interactions for a better understanding of the ultrasound approach in the renal patient.
