Other Rare Diseases

Minority diseases (MM), also called rare, are a very large group made up of more than 7.000 clinical entities that have a low prevalence in the population. These are very heterogeneous diseases, can affect more than one organ or system of the body at the same time and are often chronic and debilitating. So we are faced with complex pathologies to diagnose, complex to address, complex to treat and even complex to classify.

To deal with this situation, the Parc Taulí University Hospital has created specific care circuits in order to minimize these difficulties and thus be able to give the best possible response.

Currently, among all existing minority diseases, we find pathologies where clearly their ontology, symptoms, affectation and, therefore, classification are extremely complex and may be part of several groups of minority diseases or even not belong to any specific group. This is their space. Likewise, these pathologies include a wide range of congenital, inherited diseases and acquired disorders.

The team coordinates the efforts of a multitude of specialists who treat patients with rare genetic diseases, both congenital and hereditary, as well as acquired non-genetic diseases, with the most effective known treatments.

The unit is made up of a wide team of specialized professionals and has the collaboration of all the disciplines that allow the assessment and follow-up of the patient with excellent professionals in the treatment of hereditary, congenital and rare acquired pathologies.
