The Taulí Auditorium today hosted the award ceremony of the Taulí Scholarships, which are awarded annually by the Fundació Parc Taulí (FPT), with the aim of promoting the development of research projects by the professionals of this institution.

The event was chaired by the Councilor for Health of Sabadell City Council, Ramon Vidal, the president of the Parc Taulí Health Corporation, Modesto Custodio, the president of the Fundació Parc Taulí, Francesc Gòdia, the director of Research and Innovation, Lluís Blanch, and the head of the Psychiatry Service of the Gregorio Marañón General Hospital, Celso Arango.

In his presentation, the president of the Parc Taulí, Modesto Custodio, stressed that research is essential to prevent, diagnose and better treat diseases. Custodio highlighted the lines of research carried out by the institution's professionals, with 50 research groups distributed in seven areas, and which carry out "research with quality and excellence within the framework of a sustainable innovative model". For his part, the Councilor for Health, Ramon Vidal, thanked the institution for its efforts in awarding these scholarships, stressing that "knowledge must be a mainstay in deciding on health policies".

The director of Mental Health Parc Taulí, Diego J. Palao, has presented the head of the Psychiatry Service of the General Hospital Gregorio Marañón and scientific director of the Network Biomedical Research Center in the Area of ​​Mental Health of the Institute of Hello Carlos III, Celso Arango. Within the framework of the research and innovation that is developed in the institution, the winners of the 'First contest of innovative ideas of the Parc Taulí' have also been presented who have made a brief summary of their experiences: Alexandre Blanch, Susanna Portillo , Víctor Monroset and Pol Gonzàlez, with the idea “Carrying out radiological tests without moving the patient”; Carlos Javier Gómez Díaz and Mar Sánchez Álvarez, with the idea “Mechanical suturing device for closing the abdominal wall” and Javier José Pérez Acebo, with the idea “Wheelchair mechanism that facilitates the transfer of the patient”.

Extraordinary call M. Ramona Portero Award

As a novelty this year of the Taulí Scholarships 2015 we have had an extraordinary call, the M. Ramona Portero Award, aimed at projects to improve the diagnosis, treatment or care of patients affected by various pathologies caused or related to polytrauma.

This extraordinary award has been possible thanks to the solidarity and effort of a grateful mother to the professionals of the Parc Taulí, Mrs. Goalkeeper, for the assistance his son received after suffering a severe polytrauma. Both have been invited to attend the event and Ms. Portero handed the prize over to the award-winning professional. The donation of this prize was € 6.000.

The closing of the event was given by the president of the Fundació Parc Taulí, Francesc Gòdia, who thanked the professionals at Parc Taulí for "the enthusiasm with which they approach the projects".

17th edition of the Taulí Scholarships. The winning projects

In this 17 call, to which 96 projects are eligible, an initial endowment of € 106.000 is awarded, which will be used to provide grants to encourage initiation into research, for the evaluation and improvement of innovative healthcare processes, for the excellence in research, for innovation projects, for the best processes and also for the initiation into research of medical students at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), of which Parc Taulí is Teaching Unit.

The call for Taulí Scholarships is open to all nursing doctors, graduates and graduates who are on staff or contract in the institutions of the Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí, doctors specializing in last and penultimate year training and students of 4th, 5th or 6th year of Medicine at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

In this year's edition, 33 projects have been selected from the 96 presented:

- 17th Call for Taulí Research and Innovation Grants: 28 projects have been selected from 84 applications submitted (amount awarded: € 103.000).

This call includes the Extraordinary Call for the M. Ramona Portero Prize of € 6.000

- 6th Prize and Second Prize for the Best Process at the CSPT: The prize of € 1.500 and the second prize of € 500 have been awarded (amount awarded: € 2.000)

- 6th Call for Research Incentives for Medical Students of the Parc Taulí Teaching Unit: 3 scholarships awarded (1 scholarship awarded of € 500 and 2 ex-aequo scholarships of € 250 each) of 10 applications submitted (amount awarded: € 1.000)
